I am so sick of hearing, “Real women have curves” and “Real women have booties.” I have wide hips, but not much of a booty. So what the hell am I? Half a woman? Since when did my status as a woman get defined by my body shape?
I know “Real women have curves” was intended to promote positive body image. But while improving the body image of curvy women, statements like that are also damaging the body image of women with other body shapes. Instead of solving the problem, we are swinging in the opposite direction and creating another one.
If you identify yourself as a woman, you are a real woman. Period. Your worth and pride as a woman should never be connected to your body shape.
